What do Journal editors do?
Editors spend the fall semester writing their case notes or comments. In the Spring, they edit the pieces that have been selected for publication. They also participate in the Journal symposium, held in January each year during the SRBLSA Convention.
When is the application deadline for Associate Editors? When will I be notified if selected?
All applications are due by August 5, 2011, 11:59 p.m. Successful applicants will be notified by August 13, 2011.
What is the role of the Associate Editor?
Associate Editors will cite check Journal submissions. They are also required to submit their own case note for consideration for publication. An Associate Editor may opt to write a comment instead of a case note.
Can I apply for the Associate Editor position using a writing sample that I co-wrote?
No, you must be the sole author of the writing sample.
What is the difference between a comment and a case note?
A comment is a student-written legal article based on a specific area or issue of law. It usually cites numerous cases and laws among other sources. A case note analyzes the precedent, reasoning or outcome of one noteworthy case and is usually shorter than a comment. Generally, SRBLSA Law Journal comments are written by Managing Editors and Senior Editors, while case notes are written by Associate Editors.
What schools are in the Southern Region?
SRBLSA includes: Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Puerto Rico.
Must you be a member of the Southern Region to apply?
No! You may apply from any region, but must be a dues-paying BLSA member by September 30th, 2011.
Do you have to be a BLSA member to apply?
No! But if you accept an invitation to the Journal, you must become a dues-paying BLSA member by September 30th, 2011.
If an applicant does not get an executive position he/she
applies for, will vacant positions become open to that applicant
(assuming that there are vacant positions)?
Yes, if you are not chosen for an executive position, you will definitely be considered for other positions as well.
