Volume Four: From the White House to My House: Changing Legal Discourse through the Emergence of the Black Perspective

Greetings!

During the course of its five-year existence, the SRBLSA Law Journal  has become known for bringing issues pertinent to the African American community to the forefront, diversifying status quo legal viewpoints through its own initiative.  This year’s theme is “From the White House to My House: Changing the Color of Legal Discourse through the Emergence of the Black Perspective”.

In the wake of the historic 2008 election of President Barack Obama, the nation’s first African American to hold the position, the SRBLSA Law Journal has centered Volume IV around assessing the current state of legal issues in the black community.  The articles published in this volume will address not only where African Americans have come from, but where we presently are, and where we yet need to go.

Previously, the Journal has only expressed its ideas in print, by publishing articles, notes, and comments.  However, given this season of change, the 2009-2010 Editorial Board decided to create a forum where law students, and professionals, could discuss legal issues of particular concern to the black community, face-to-face, by hosting the Inaugural SRBLSA Law Journal Symposium on January 16, 2010, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, during the 37th Annual SRBLSA Regional Convention.

The aim of this year’s volume is to stimulate thought on issues in different areas of law that still affect black communities, irrespective of the Nation’s strides in race relations.

This volume is dedicated to Civil Rights advocates, past and present.

Sincerely,

Harriet L. Huell
